Zelophehad

Zuh-loh´fuh-had

A man of Manasseh who died in the wilderness leaving no male heir (Num 26:33; Num 27:3; 1Chr 7:2). His five daughters, Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah, petitioned Moses and Eleazar, the priest, to recognize the right of female inheritance (Num 27:1-11; Josh 17:3-6). The petition was granted with the stipulation that female heirs marry within their own tribe to protect the tribal inheritance (Num 36:1-12).
