Shishak

Shi´shak

A king of Egypt 945–924 BCE. A contemporary of Solomon, he gave asylum to Jeroboam (1Kgs 11:40) until the latter returned to take over the Northern Kingdom (Israel) after Solomon’s death (1Kgs 12:2-3). When the country was divided between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, Shishak, for reasons still unclear, launched a major invasion of Palestine (1Kgs 14:25-26; 2Chr 12:1-9).
