Li-vit´i-kuhs

The third book in the Pentateuch (the first five books of the OT). The name is descriptive, “the levitical book,” that is, concerned with the Temple personnel, all of whom were assumed to be descended from Levi. The book records regulations pertaining to Israel’s sacrificial system and purity laws.
