Lutheran theologian and artist, Solomon Raj uses batik and woodcuts to depict biblical themes by drawing on Indian cultural symbols.In this piece, John the Baptist is baptising Jesus with the dove signifying the descending of the Holy Spirit above him. The rising sun, signifing a new day is in the back left.Raj uses a broad cutting pattern on his woodblocks to reflect a popular Indian folk style.
