Map of Huqoq/Yaquq

A map of the areas that have been excavated as part of the Huqoq Excavation Project. The ancient synagogue and modern village are located in Area 3000, the Byzantine-period village is located in Area 2000, and one of the ancient miqva’ot is located in Area 4000.

Relating to the Byzantine empire, which ruled the Eastern Mediterranean from the fifth century CE to 1453; its capital was Byzantium (modern Istanbul).

Dug up, often from an archaeological site.

A site where older artifacts are dug up or otherwise revealed.
