Prophet Isaiah and the Angel

Isaiah Zagar, Prophet Isaiah and the Angel.

Mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar is notable for his murals around Philadelphia's South Street. His largest public installation, the Magic Gardens, includes a fully tiled indoor gallery and a massive, labyrinthine outdoor mosaic sculpture. This permanent installation covers half a city block and includes pieces of glittering mirror, found objects, and ceramics and tiles contributed by the community. This section includes a wooden piece reminiscent of Zagar’s years of Peace Corps service in Peru. The depiction of Isaiah and the angel holds some ambiguity—is this the biblical prophet Isaiah, or the artist-prophet Isaiah Zagar?
