vine of Sodom

A plant whose fruit appears tempting yet is inedible (Deut 32:32). Often identified as the apple of Sodom, it is a plant of the Dead Sea area that bears a greenish-yellow applelike fruit filled with dry white fibers resembling those of the milkweed.

Deut 32:32

32Their vine comes from the vinestock of Sodom,
from the vineyards of Gomorrah;
their grapes are grapes of poison,
their clusters are bitter;
