Uz (Uhz)

1 The son of Aram and grandson of Shem (Gen 10:23; see 1Chr 1:17), where Uz is listed as a “son” of Shem). 2 The son of Nahor and Milcah and brother of Buz (Gen 22:21). 3 The son of Dishan and brother of Aran the Horite (Gen 36:28; 1Chr 1:42). 4 The homeland of the “daughter of Edom” (Lam 4:21). 5 The homeland of Job (Job 1:1). The location of Uz is uncertain. In (Job 1:19) this land is described as a desert area. In (Jer 25:20) Uz is linked inexplicably with the land of the Philistines.
