shroud

The cloth used to wrap a corpse. One such piece of material was used to wrap the body of Jesus after the crucifixion (Matt 27:59; but see John 20:6-7). That piece of cloth has never been confidently identified, although some claim the shroud kept at Turin, Italy, is the one used for Jesus.
