Shaphat (Shay´fat; Heb., “judged”)

1 A Simeonite member of the group sent by Moses to spy out the land of Canaan (Num 13:5). 2 The father of the prophet Elisha (1Kgs 19:16; 1Kgs 19:19; 2Kgs 3:11; 2Kgs 6:31). 3 A Davidic descendant and a grandson of Zerubbabel (1Chr 3:22). 4 A Gadite chief living in Bashan (1Chr 5:12). A herdsman of David, and a son of Adlai (1Chr 27:29).
