roe, roebuck

The roe deer; it was considered clean by the Hebrews and therefore edible (Deut 14:5). It was a delicacy suitable for the royal table of Solomon (1Kgs 4:23).

Deut 14:5

5the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain-sheep.

1Kgs 4:23

23ten fat oxen, and twenty pasture-fed cattle, one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fatted fowl.
