A large region of interior western Asia Minor, during the NT period divided by the Romans into the provinces Asia and Galatia. (Acts 2:10) mentions Phrygian Jewish pilgrims among those who heard the apostles speaking in tongues at Pentecost. Either Paul or his companions are said to have worked in Antioch, Laodicea, Hierapolis, Colossae, and Iconium (Col 1:2; Col 2:1; Col 4:13; Col 4:15-16; 2Tim 3:11; cf. Acts 13:14-51; Acts 16:6; Acts 18:23). Philemon, whom Paul knew personally, probably lived in or near Colossae. The author of the Revelation to John also worked in this area, as one can see from his comments concerning Laodicea (Rev 3:14-22).
