Ophrah

Ophrah (Of´ruh)

1 A town belonging to the Abiezrite clan of the tribe of Manasseh (Judg 6:11; Judg 6:15), the home of Gideon (Judg 6-8), and the scene of Abimelech’s slaughter of his seventy brothers (Judg 9:5). 2 A town of Benjamin (Josh 18:23; 1Sam 13:17), identified with modern Taiyiba, four miles northeast of Bethel; it is evidently the Ephron of (2Chr 13:19), Aphairema of (1Macc 11:34), and Ephraim of (2Sam 13:23 and John 11:54). 3 A descendant of Judah (1Chr 4:14).
