Merodach

Merodach (Mi-roh´dak)

Also known as Marduk (mahr´dook), a Mesopotamian god. Merodach is mentioned in (Jer 50:2), where he is also referred to as Bel (Isa 46:1; Jer 51:44).

Jer 50:2

2Declare among the nations and proclaim,
set up a banner and proclaim,
do not conceal it, say:
Babylon is taken,
Bel is put to shame,
Merodach is dismayed.

Isa 46:1

1Bel bows down, Nebo stoops,
their idols are on beasts and cattle;
these things you carry are loaded
as burdens on weary animals.

Jer 51:44

44I will punish Bel in Babylon,
and make him disgorge what he has swallowed.
The nations shall no longer stream to him;
the wall of Babylon has fallen.
