Maon (May´on; Heb., “dwelling,” “refuge”)

1 The son of Shammai, and so a descendant of Caleb (1Chr 2:45). 2 A town (Josh 15:55), either Khirbet el Ma‘in, northwest of Beer-sheba, or Tel Ma‘in, south of Hebron. Nabal the Calebite was Maon’s most celebrated OT resident (1Sam 25:2-42).
