mallow (Mal´loh)

Any plant of the family Malvaceae. Biblical usage cites its characteristic fading (Job 24:24) and its relatively unpleasant nature as a food source (Job 30:4); it was used for food only in desperate circumstances.

Job 24:24

24They are exalted a little while, and then are gone;
they wither and fade like the mallow;
they are cut off like the heads of grain.

Job 30:4

4they pick mallow and the leaves of bushes,
and to warm themselves the roots of broom.
