Lehi (Lee´hi; Heb., “jawbone”)

A place-name, the site where the Philistines camped as they sought Samson after he had burned their grain (Judg 15:9). Samson was bound and brought to the Philistines at Lehi, but broke free and killed a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey. To mark the occasion, the place was named Ramath-lehi, meaning the “height, or high place, of the jawbone” (Judg 15:14-17).
