Biennial herb similar to garlic and onion. A staple in the ancient Near Eastern diet, leeks were yearned for by the Hebrews while they were in the wilderness (Num 11:5) as a symbol of more abundant life.

Num 11:5

5We remember the fish we used to eat in Egypt for nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;
