Kenizzites

Kenizzites (Ken´uh-zits)

An ethnic group mentioned among the pre-Israelite peoples of Canaan in (Gen 15:19). Caleb is referred to as “Caleb the son of Jephunnah the Kenizzite” (Num 32:12; Josh 14:6; Josh 14:14). Whether the Kenizzites should be connected with the Kenaz of (Gen 36:11) is uncertain.

Gen 15:19

19the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,

Num 32:12

12none except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they have unreservedly followed the Lord.’

Josh 14:14

14So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholeheartedly followed the Lord, the God of Israel.

Gen 36:11

11The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
