A common name among Jews and in the NT. 1 The father of Mattathias (1Macc 2:1). 2 The oldest son of Mattathias (1Macc 2:2; 1Macc 9:35-42). 3 The father of Peter (John 1:42; John 21:15-17). 4 A member of the high-priestly family (Acts 4:6).
