The setting for Jesus’s encounter with a Samaritan woman in (John 4) Its location is fixed by reference in v. 20 to “this mountain,” Gerizim, revered by Samaritans, and in v. 5 to the field Jacob gave Joseph (Gen 33:18-20; Gen 48:22).
