Horites

Horites (Hor´its)

The pre-Edomite inhabitants of Seir (Gen 14:6; Gen 36:20-30; Deut 2:12; Deut 2:22), the chief mountain of Edom. There is some evidence for the identification of Hivites and Horites. Zibeon the Hivite (Gen 36:2) is listed among the Horites in (Gen 36:20, Gen 36:29), and some texts of the LXX read “Horite” for “Hivite” in (Gen 34:2 and Josh 9:7).
