A small mammal, also designated as “porcupine.” In (Isa 14:23), a city that experiences desolation as the result of divine judgment is described metaphorically as “a possession of the hedgehog.” The same image is used in an oracle against the nations in (Isa 34:11). Similar negative desolation is involved in (Zeph 2:14), where Nineveh’s destruction is described.

23And I will make it a possession of the hedgehog, and pools of water, and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says the Lord of hosts.
