forbearance

Divine patience in refraining from angry or vengeful, but deserved, punishment. In Jer 15:15 it describes God’s allowing a prophet added life to complete his mission. In Rom 2:4 God’s patience is held up for celebration and imitation, not despising, because it is intended to lead to repentance. In Rom 3:25 Christ’s atoning work is the result of divine forbearance displayed by God’s passing over former human sins.
