Eliphaz

Eliphaz (El´i-faz)

1 The eldest son of Esau and father of several Edomite clans, including Teman (Gen 36:15-16). 2 The first and, presumably, oldest of Job’s three friends (Job 2:11; Job 4:1; Job 15:1; Job 22:1; Job 42:7; Job 42:9). Assuming Job’s basic piety, he urged submission. Eliphaz’s designation, the Temanite, suggests he was from the area settled by the Edomite clan mentioned above.
