Cnidus (Ni´duhs)

A city near Cape Krio in southwest Turkey; it received a letter from the Roman consul Lucius (Calpurnius Piso) ca. 140 BCE backing Simon’s rule over the Jews (1Macc 15:23). Paul’s ship sailed past Cnidus en route to Rome (Acts 27:7).

7We sailed slowly for a number of days and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus, and as the wind was against us, we sailed under the lee of Crete off Salmone.
