The worm-shaped larva of a moth, butterfly, or other insect, considered destructive because of its voracious appetite for growing plants. It is viewed as one of the forms of God’s punishment or judgment (1Kgs 8:37; 2Chr 6:28; Ps 78:46; Isa 33:4).
