Azariah

Azariah (Az´uh-ri´uh; Heb., “Yah[weh] has helped”)

A name also appearing in the OT as Azaryah and Azaryahu. 1 The king of Judah (2Kgs 14:21; 2Kgs 15:1; 2Kgs 15:7; 2Kgs 15:17; 2Kgs 15:23; 2Kgs 15:27; 1Chr 3:12), otherwise named Uzziah. 2 The two sons of the Judean king Jehoshaphat (2Chr 21:2). 3 The royal governor and army officer (1Kgs 4:5; 2Chr 23:1). 4 A prophet (2Chr 15:1). 5 Several priests (1Kgs 4:2; 1Chr 6:9; 1Chr 6:10; 1Chr 6:13-14; 1Chr 6:36; 1Chr 9:11; 2Chr 29:12; Neh 8:7). 6 Various tribal or other leaders (Jer 42:1 [LXX]; Jer 43:1; 1Chr 2:8, 1Chr 2:38-39; 2Chr 28:12; Neh 3:23-24; Neh 7:17; Neh 12:33). 7 The original name (Azzariah) of Abednego (Dan 1:6-7; Dan 1:11; Dan 1:19; Dan 2:17).
