Azarel (Az´uh-rel; Heb., “God has helped”)

1 A Korahite, one of David’s warriors (1Chr 12:6; Heb 5:7). 2 The son of Jeroham, a Danite leader in the time of David (1Chr 27:22). 3 A levitical musician in the time of David (1Chr 25:18; often identified with Uzziel in 1Chr 25:4). 4 A postexilic Israelite who divorced his foreign wife in response to Ezra’s proclamation (Ezra 10:41). 5 A postexilic priest living in Jerusalem (Neh 11:13). 6 A postexilic priest who participated in the dedication of the wall at the time of Nehemiah (Neh 12:36; possibly the same as 5).
