Ararat

Ararat (Air´uh-rat)

The biblical name for the region around Lake Van (southeast Turkey, extending into northwest Iran) and the people and state established there. The assassins of Sennacherib fled there from Nineveh (2Kgs 19:37; Isa 37:38). Later, after the collapse of Assyria, Ararat and other northern nations are summoned in (Jer 51:27-28) to attack Babylon. In (Gen 8:4) the ark settles on the mountains of Ararat.
