Abner

Abner (Ab´nuhr)

Saul’s army commander (1Sam 14:50-51). Abner led operations against David, but eventually abandoned Saul’s followers to negotiate a private compact with David for the transfer of the North to him. Nevertheless Abner was cut down by Joab, his personal rival and commander of Judah’s militia (2Sam 3:12-39).
